Predictive astrology becomes much clearer once two different questions are kept separate. The birth chart asks what kinds of experience the life can support. Dashas and transits ask when a particular part of that pattern may become active. A transit cannot manufacture a result that has no foundation in the natal chart. A dasha does not force every possible meaning of its ruling planet to occur. Good timing work narrows the field by comparing the natal promise, the active periods, current movement, and the person's circumstances.

Vimshottari Dasha is the most widely used planetary period system in Parashari practice. It divides a 120-year cycle among nine grahas, with the starting point determined by the Moon's birth nakshatra. The Mahadasha sets the larger chapter, while Antardashas and smaller subperiods bring other planets into the sequence. Interpretation is not a matter of reading two planet keywords together. Each period lord must be judged through house ownership, placement, dignity, aspects, conjunctions, nakshatra, relevant divisional charts, and its relationship with the other active lords.

Other systems answer the timing question from different angles. Yogini Dasha uses an eight-part cycle and can provide a useful comparison to Vimshottari. Kaalchakra Dasha is sign based and depends on the Moon's nakshatra pada. Some practitioners also use Jaimini sign periods or conditional dashas when a chart meets the required rules. More systems do not automatically produce more accuracy. A second method is helpful when it independently supports a judgment. It becomes noise when an astrologer keeps changing systems until one produces the desired date.

Transits describe the sky now. Slow planets such as Saturn, Jupiter, Rahu, and Ketu are usually examined first because they remain in a sign long enough to develop a theme. Faster planets can help refine shorter windows. The natal Moon, ascendant, house lords, and sensitive degrees may all be used as reference points, but no single reference point is sufficient in every case. Sade Sati, for example, deserves more care than a blanket seven-and-a-half-year prediction of hardship. Saturn's natal role, strength, dasha involvement, and the houses crossed all change the experience.

Transitions between periods can feel unsettled. Dasha Sandhi describes the junction between one Mahadasha and the next, when an established set of priorities gives way to another. The shift may be obvious, quiet, welcome, or confusing. It is tempting to assign every event near the boundary to the new period, but real lives do not change on a clean editorial cut. Existing commitments continue, choices accumulate, and results from the previous period may finish unfolding after the calendar has moved on.

Mark the start of major periods, then note a few events without trying to prove a theory. Which houses and significations repeated? Which transits supported the period lords? Where did the technique remain ambiguous? Predictive skill grows from that kind of honest comparison. The aim is a defensible window and a useful range of possibilities, not a dramatic date delivered with false certainty.
